FAQs

How often should my piano be tuned?

Most pianos need two tunings per year, usually coinciding with seasonal changes and big changes in humidity levels. When humidity is high, the soundboard absorbs the moisture in the air and exerts more pressure on the strings, making the pitch go sharp. The opposite is true with low humidity — the soundboard becomes drier and exerts less pressure on strings, making the pitch go flat. So maintaining constant humidity levels is actually more important than just a steady temperature year-round. To help with this, we offer installation of Dampp-Chaser humidity control systems which mitigate large humidity changes and help tunings last longer.

Is My piano worth fixing?

Repairing and refurbishing any piano is typically not cheap, but in comparison, it is much cheaper than the cost of a new piano. That’s why we offer comprehensive services relating to the proper care and adjustment to your piano. As a rule of thumb, the average handmade American piano will be worth investing some money into, extending its usable life. And if your piano has strong sentimental value, then we would recommend some professional TLC. While it is not an investment that will pay off financially (exceptions being Steinway pianos, among a few other brands), it will pay off musically for decades to come.
